Marking Time – Yellow

Perhaps as a result of my early (and short!) foray into accounting, I like numbers and keeping count.  Tally marks are a great way of doing this, marking time, marking events, marking life.  Ironically I have not kept count of the number of tally marks in this piece as they are so numerous!  Initially I painted tally marks on a silkscreen and used it for printing fabric, using a ‘breakdown’ printing process, reflecting how repetitious life can been and how these small repeated events merge together and ‘break down’ into one view of them.  This fabric has been cut and re-pieced to create what you see here before many more additional tally marks have been added in stitch.
