Breakdown Printing Workshop

Breakdown printing is a wonderfully random technique which produces the beautiful cloth. Using screens, we will paint them with thickened dye and then print through them to dye the fabric. You will go away with lots of unique fabric ready to be used in quilts or as backgrounds for embroidery or other textile art.

All materials provided, apart from fabric and a complementary lunch is included. Suitable fabric will be available to purchase on the day.

Fabric Printing Using Screens



Explore different ways to use a screen to print unique fabric. Using different mediums, we will print onto textiles, learning how to make your own resists and stencils. No prior experience is necessary and due to the small size of the group the class will be tailored to individual experience levels.

All materials and equipment are provided apart from fabric. A complimentary lunch is included each day. Suitable fabric will be available for purchase on the day.

Make & Fill a Book



Spend the morning gelli plate printing onto various papers, which in the afternoon we will stitch some of these prints into a book and work on them further using inktense and other paints.

All materials provided and a complementary lunch is included.

Creative Sketchbooks Workshop



Take the fear out of sketchbooking and learn how to develop your work through a series of creative exercises, using lots of different techniques and materials. All materials provided, including an A5 sketchbook to get you started and a complementary lunch is included. All you need to bring is yourself along with any ideas or themes you want to work on. Don’t worry if you have a mental block on a theme, I have lots of inspiring ideas and images to get you started. You will go away with at least one sketchbook full of ideas, ready to be expanded into larger pieces of work and loads more confidence about developing your work through sketchbooks.

Scrappy Backgrounds for Art Quilts

Learn one of my favourite techniques, using small pieces of fabric to create a background for your quilt and using paint to pull them all together. You will go away with a small quilt well underway and with advice on how to complete it.

Machine Quilting using Thermofax

Spend the morning learning about thermofax printing and printing on to stitch’n’tear. In the afternoon, we will get our sewing machines out and using free-machining and our printed stitch’n’tear, we will machine quilt and appliqué patterns to our quilt tops.

Please bring fabric and a sewing machine. A complete supply list will be issued upon booking. A complementary lunch is included.

DECORATIVE SPIRALS – a one day workshop with Sheena Norquay


Learn to trace and enlarge a spiral to the desired size for one or more cushion covers. Try different quilting techniques using various feet for the spiral – single or twin needling using the walking foot, couching thicker thread using the braiding foot, satin stitching using the appliqué foot or tailor’s tacking foot. Free machine quilt between the lines of the spiral using one or more continuous line patterns.

SCRAPPY DOODLES – SHAPES AND LINES –
a one day workshop with Sheena Norquay



Expand your quilting vocabulary by using fabric samples as inspiration to create a variety of free motion quilted designs suitable for background quilting around quilted or appliquéd motifs or on geometric shapes.Ten or twelve fabric samples will be bonded to a background and then you will be shown how to use the shapes and lines on the fabrics to draw continuous line, decorative patterns and individual shapes and marks which will be free motion quilted within ribbon like shapes. These can be outlined with satin stitch and the sample can be a small wallhanging or it can be folded to make a clutch bag.

Fabric Printing Day

There are many different ways of printing fabric and on this day we will explore several of them, including making your own printing blocks, printing with found objects and different methods of monoprinting. You will leave with lots of gorgeous unique fabric and lots of ideas of what to do with it.

Abstract Quilt Designing

Learn how to be inspired by things around you to create stunning and unique designs for abstract art quilts. Using a number of different techniques, media and inspiration sources, we will create a variety of different drawings which we will then develop into designs for a quilt. A rich selection of drawings and ideas will be created. Advice will be given on how to take these designs into fabric.
